The inspirational success story of Ron "R-Truth" Killings(by Lesedi Taele)

Ever wondered what the perfect fairytale story is? Ever wondered what it means to overcome adversity and a rough background in order to chase your dreams? Look no further than WWE veteran, Ron Killings(affectionately known to the world as R-Truth). A black man from Charlotte North Carolina, Killings had a dream just like many young children. Growing up in a poor neighborhood, Killings had a dream of becoming a musician. A mesomorph, he had a very appealing physique as a young man and was a prominent football player at Harding University High School.

In order to fund his dream and to make money in his early twenties, Truth sold cocaine in the streets. A tremendous athlete not only in football, but also in track and field, he was offered multiple scholarships from top universities, but he ultimately turned them down in order to pursue a career in music. The money he made from selling cocaine in the streets would ultimately help fund his studio time, outfits, backup dancers and travel costs to events and performances. This would ultimately catch up with him as he would serve multiple short sentences in prison before being incarcerated for 13 months in prison.

This would be the start of an upward direction for Killings as in prison he met Jim Crockett who was involved in a family wrestling company and introduced Killings to professional wrestling after leaving prison citing that Killings had a tremendous physical stature and had the charisma needed to succeed in professional wrestling. After a long grind on the independent wrestling scene, Killings got his big break when he signed for TNA Wrestling and won the NWA Champion from Ken Shamrock, thus making Truth the first man of color to win the coveted championship.

He made his return to the WWE in 2007, and was rebranded as R-Truth and from then, until now he has not looked back. At 49 years of age, not only is he enjoying his career as a professional wrestler, he also gets to live out his childhood dream as he makes his own music as well. This story in short is one of the biggest turnarounds in life and it proves to show that irrespective of where you come from, life can change in an instant if you put in the work and believe in yourself.

One of the most inspirational quotes from him in his documentary, WWE 24: R-TRUTH, he said he wants viewers to look at him and say to themselves "He did it, now I can do it"
